What does it mean to dream that you loose your teeth? (dream interpretation losing teeth / rotten teeth)

Loss of teeth (or loose teeth), is one of the most common dream themes. There are several angles as to what it might mean, depending on the characteristics of your particular life situation. Read about three serious suggestions of what it might be about in the following.

Dreams of teeth falling out as a picture of a feeling of being unable to handle your current life circumstances, or a given situation.

Many people dream that their teeth fall out during periods of their lives when they feel they have a hard time in managing their situation. Losing one’s teeth in a dream may then be a picture of you finding it difficult to cope with the challenges you are currently faced. In this sense teeth appearing in dreams symbolize an image of strength, our ability to put up with lifes challenges.

The feeling of being unable to cope is unfortunately a very common phenomenon in 2014, where there are high demands on all of us.

When trying to understand your dreams it is important to know that your dreams are… your dreams. As such, you are the best person to figure out the true meaning of your dreams.

However, it is important to learn how to generally approach your dreams. Dream dictionaries like this one are only a supplement, and if you want to fully utilize the potential of your dreams, you should start at a different place.

My online course “Unlock your DREAMlife” gives you a great foundation for understanding (and recalling) your dreams.

Dreams of tooth loss as a picture of a struggle to become truly adult.

To loose our teeth or that our teeth fall out, is something we all experience in our waking life – the time in our lives when we get rid of our milk teeth (or “baby teeth”) and get our permanent “adult teeth”. Losing teeth in dreams are often about just that – our shift from “child life” to “adulthood”, the shift from being dependent on our parents (or others!), to becoming independent/able to take care of ourselves. This also involves the transition from letting others make decisions about our life to being able to make decisions that concerns oneself. As an adult, we have to say yes or no to demands or expressed wishes from others, and in general be able to express our opinions and views.

Surprisingly enough then (?), you can dream that you loose your teeth at almost any stage in life … which of course says something about how hard it is to really understand and comply with this; that we are responsible for our own lives and that we must free ourselves from our parents. There can undoubtedly be said a lot about the transition from childhood to adulthood, but to dream that one loses one’s teeth is often an image of one’s process towards becoming an adult.

Thus, it is not uncommon to also dream of Peter Pan (who did not want to grow up), in stages of your life where you are struggling with this. If your teeth easily fall out in the dream, it could be a sign that you are relatively effortless moving into adulthood.

Dreams of teeth falling out as a picture of vanity.

On the contrary, many people also lose their teeth as they get older and therefore a dream of losing one’s teeth can also be a picture of one’s (unconscious) fear of getting old. In other words – when you dream that your teeth are loose or fall out, it can also be about vanity, and again an expression of your ability to accept that you are getting older. Scientists have actually found out that women in menopause often dream that their teeth fall out (more often than women who are not in menopause). Perhaps also as a metaphor of the fact that they might experience themselves as less attractive.

Dream dictionaries are a very helpful tool when interpreting dreams. However, generally learning how to approach your dreams, will give you a better foundation for understanding them. My online course “Unlock your DREAMlife” teaches you how to much better utilize – recall and understand – your dreams.

What about you – have you dreamt that you lost your teeth, or that they were loose? And can you connect it to your waking life? Please share your dream and your thoughts in the comment box below.

NOTE: Dreams are 100% individual, and when you dream about loosing your teeth, it’s almost certainly about something else for you than it is for your friend, who also dreamt about loosing his/her teeth. Dream interpretation / dream analysis is sometimes a difficult art, and a particular interpretation of a dream is only correct if you feel “affected” by it. Therefore, it is not certain that the above mentioned interpretations are relevant to you.
