What does it mean to dream about babies and/or children? (dream interpretation baby, child)
Dreams about babies / children – what do they mean?
They’re often portrayed as cuddly and lovely little creatures, as in the picture – but what does it mean when we dream about babies and children? It can be about several things depending on our life situation, but often it is the potential, undeveloped sides of ourselves, or “priming” projects we are working on, to grow. However, there are several approaches to the dreams of babies and children.
A baby in a dream can be like an image on the new opportunity of a lifetime, a new side of the personality or a new project. Babies are the little creatures that can grow up to be all sorts of things. When we are in our dreams and see babies or children, an important interpretation can be: could this baby or child (in the dream) be an expression of a new project I not long ago let go of? Or is it simply sides of myself that I did not spot and which I should increasingly grow/develop?
I myself had a dream when I at a point in my career said yes to a job in the United States, about a woman who devoured hundreds of dead babies into a grave. It was for me a clear picture of how I closed down for other development opportunities by saying yes to the job.
Similarly, children and babies in your dreams can be pictures of opportunities for you to grow and develop – or not. Some psychoanalysts/therapists talk about the fact that we need to keep track of our inner kindergarten – the immensely many aspects of ourselves that would like to be addressed; we have to do our best to accommodate everyone – in the right quantities and at the right time.

When trying to understand your dreams it is important to know that your dreams are… your dreams. As such, you are the best person to figure out the true meaning of your dreams.
However, it is important to learn how to generally approach your dreams. Dream dictionaries like this one are only a supplement, and if you want to fully utilize the potential of your dreams, you should start at a different place.
My online course “Unlock your DREAMlife” gives you a great foundation for understanding (and recalling) your dreams.

Children and babies in dreams as reflections of our own childish sides.
Another angle of the presence of children (or babies) in our dreams are the direct forthright that they can be pictures of our own childish (baby-like) sides.
If you dream of a child who behaves unreasonably and may not accept the “framework and structures” that are being foisted on him/her, even then, a good question would be whether you might sometimes, in an almost childish manner, excuse yourself over the inevitable requirements and frameworks such as your work, or your new life as a mother/father etc. But that is not to say that having childish sides is a negative thing.
Perhaps we unconsciously restrain a positively “childish” approach to life in ourselves – such as it could be an indication of a tremendous openness towards others, towards the ones who can see the fun in almost anything, those who think and act more freely, etc. These are good “childish” qualities. It is important to know how “the child inside you” thrives. So as always in dream interpretation, it is important that you go see the dream from several angles.
The importance of the child’s age.
In addition to the above, there are some very interesting meanings of the child’s age in dreams. The child’s age in the dream can be a picture on the age of a project you have launched/started (for example, a two-year-old child as an image of the store that was opened two years ago, or the relationships you initiated two years ago). Another very important aspect to the child’s age can be that it also reflects the age you were when something important (perhaps traumatic or intense) happened to you in your life.
Dreams of babies and children in pregnant women.
For the record, I should also mention here that it is perfectly natural and supported by research that pregnant women dream immeasurably more about babies and children than non-pregnant women.
Have you had a dream about babies/children that you would like to share? Or have you interpreted a “baby dream” you’ve had and reached an exciting interpretation? Then do comment in the field below.

NOTE: Dreams are 100% individual, and when you dream about babies or children, it’s almost certainly about something else for you than it is for your friend, who also dreamed of babies or children. Dream interpretation is sometimes a difficult art, and a particular interpretation of a dream is only correct if you feel “affected” by it. Therefore, it is not certain that the above mentioned interpretations are relevant to you.

good morning,i had a dream where i was carrying a baby of (1yr old) and also guiding 4 children about (5yrs old) on the road against motorist.
Good morning. I can’t really tell how I arrived at this dream. I didn’t experience the process of childbirth but in that dream my body was feeling that something( baby) came out of me. I know the baby was laying at the corner of the room but I didn’t see the baby. A friend of my elder sister was even mocking and laughing at me. My bath of coffee and other things was being prepared and a pant to change into was given to me then I woke up.
Hi Amy,
thank you for your comment and very interesting dream! Did you read the blogpost above? Since I don’t know much about you / your life situation, it is very hard for me to say what this dream might be about. What might this baby illustrate? Something that you have “inside you” – i.e. a new side of yourself, an idea for a (business?) project, a longing to do something particular? That is maybe not that accepted by the people around you. I.e. – what does the friend of your sister make you think of – what type of person is she – and is she then an image of a side of yourself (an inner voice) that keeps preventing you from being who you are. Just thougts! Best regards – Michael
I don’t have any kids yet and I have a fairly happy life with my boyfriend. But I keep having very vivid dreams. Last night I had one that I had a son (2 or 3 years old) and a daughter (4 or 5 years old). All they did the whole dream was play , wether it be with each other me or my other family members that’s all they really did. Also in my dream I felt like they didn’t have enough. Or that I was being there enough for them. What could all of this mean??
Hi. I had this dream but I don’t remember much. I was walking somewhere with my family. Suddenly I saw from a distance maybe 2 people and a child. A little girl maybe 6 or 7 years old. She came running to me so I crunched down. She jumped into my arms and I hugged her. In that moment I was feeling so happy and I don’t know why. When we hugged she let go and went back to other 2 people. What do you think I could mean?
And I wanted to ask about a dream that I often dream off. It’s been maybe 3 years and I dream it not every day but maybe once per month. In this dream I am flying. I have huge white wings and I am flying over some moutains and lands. I never land. And I can vividly feel wind and smell of like water and treese. There is waterfall, green grass..
I had a dream I was holding my 4 month old daughter and I looked on the couch and their was a baby crying that looked just like my daughter same age and everything what does that mean??
I had a dream that I was in a candle store with 2 other ppl. I was waiting for my candy to be weighed. Suddenly, I see a child running off. I started running after the toddler. I kept yelling “stop him” as I was running after him. Attempts were made by bystanders to stop him but, the child kept getting away. Finally ppl managed to stop him for me. Someone game what looked like a cart to take him back. walking back with the kid, the item he was hold was now by his side, I was crying, because I was unable to control the child.
I’m constantly having dreams about my own children, I have a 5 year old and a now 3 year old. In my dreams the 3 year old is always there safe and sound. My 5 year old is either always sick, passes away (god bless him), or just not there. Never any happy dreams with him. What does this mean?
Dear Concerned, thank you for your dream. It is as such quite hard for me to guess/know what your dream might be illustrating. This since I don’t know anything about you, or the relationship you have with your kids. Interesting is it for instance for how long you’ve had this dream /similar dream (you write that you are constantly having these dreams). There are so many options for interpretation; your son is growing up, and he is now “bigger than you think” – i.e. you need to approach him differently now – not a small baby any longer (one angle – i.e. he is dying because he needs to reappear in a new version inside you) – you might be overlooking something in him/with regards to him right now – might be putting too much focus on the 3-year old. Might be he representents something in yourself that you are currently losing – the small child in your self. So many options – and the last one of cause might be that he is physically ill – if that is a concern, I advice you to see a docter at least to exclude this option. As you can see – very hard to figure out what your dream might portray since I only have the dream to relate to. Best – Michael
I had a dream that a friend of mine that I have not seen in about a year and is not pregnant had a male child with her now husband. I was going to visit and there were 2 identical flats with the doors open, one was completely white with a brown couch, I went in and walked out immediately because it felt wrong and the other was stylish with a wood carved cabinet and as that is her style I went into that house to stay and there she was with her child. The child had red hair like the father and was very friendly and we got on well. The dream was quite happy, I believe I was staying with her for a while and was about to leave so I was taking my television set back with me and he (the child) was quite unhappy about that. The husband was not in the dream, there was also a part where the child about 3 or 4 I’m guessing was eating potato salad and went to the fridge to add condensed milk to it. I’m quite confused by this dream and hoping you can assist.
I dreamt of having a 1year old child which my father gave to a prophet woman to help me take care of her, in that dream I was in a care when we drove to an nested we packed because it was getting late so immediately I remember I had a child when I ask my father he said she is with someone and I can she her after 2years that she is just a year plus. Please what does it mean
Let me start out by filling you in. I am a new mother to a now 3 month old baby boy. I am also a newly wed to my husband who I was engaged to for over a year. Lately I have been having dreams that Jonah (my son) is a twin to a baby girl (Evelyn) I’ll have dreams that I have the two of them but o always forget about Evelyn. For example, I will just have given birth and forget to tell anyone about Evelyn or last night my mom had to go get her in her car seat cause I forgot she’s there. As soon as I do remember her in my dreams I am filled with shame and self-hatred for forgetting my baby girl. Jonah isn’t truly the focus of my dreams like this. I have woken up with the urge to have another baby, or ill be sad, or even mad. I don’t know what these dreams mean but I know it must be something.
