Dreams about spiders – what do they mean?

Spiders in dreams can be disgusting and scary – just like the way that spiders usually make most of us feel! But what does it mean when we dream about spiders? There are several angles to this.

Dreams of spiders as something negative with regards to ones maternal / female side.

The spider spins its web and captures other small insects in it. If you dream about spiders, you can ask yourself if you are either a victim of being caught and held onto – or whether it is you who catches someone and hold them in your web?

Spiders in dreams often represent a conflict to the dreamer’s own mother (mother fixation) – related to the web of feelings and expectations which the child is cocooned in. Among some spider species, the females are larger than males, and in some species the female spider bites the head off the male after mating – a picture of how the female character’s love devours.

In the real world this could be the mother who prevents her son to find his own woman by destroying the nascent love for him. Or the mother who is too possessive of her children – or the very motherly care a woman can have on her male partner – resulting in the partner does not evolve, and does not act independently.

In this way, a dream of spiders can also be due to a problematic relationship with the maternal side in us – that is if you dream of spiders you can have a problematic relationship with what is about the motherly side, your own motherly side towards others, or your relationship with your mother. As a final note, this negative “feminine” behavior is also found in a man though it is not as prevalent – It is probably more the case that the man becomes paternal towards his partner or his employees in a workplace, and therefore a spider is not the right image.

When trying to understand your dreams it is important to know that your dreams are… your dreams. As such, you are the best person to figure out the true meaning of your dreams.

However, it is important to learn how to generally approach your dreams. Dream dictionaries like this one are only a supplement, and if you want to fully utilize the potential of your dreams, you should start at a different place.

My online course “Unlock your DREAMlife” gives you a great foundation for understanding (and recalling) your dreams.

NOTE: Dreams are 100% individual, and when you dream about spiders, it’s almost certainly about something else for you than it is for your friend, who also dreamt about spiders. Dream interpretation / dream analysis is sometimes a difficult art, and a particular interpretation of a dream is only correct if you feel “affected” by it. Therefore, it is not certain that the above mentioned interpretations are relevant to you.
